Chattanooga State Holds On and Wins Against Hiwassee 7-6

Coach Greg Dennis throws to Tigher batters before the Chattanooga Lookouts game.

Tuesday afternoon the Tigers of Chattanooga State faced off against Hiwassee College at home. Tigers pitcher Andy Rivera got the start allowing only 2 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings pitched.  The Tigers entered the top of the 9th inning with a comfortable 7-2 lead. After a couple of hits and a walk, Hiwassee was able to get the bases loaded with only one out. The next batter for Hiwassee was able to then clear the bases with a grand-slam to bring the game within one run.

The Tigers defense stepped up after that play and made the necessary adjustments needed to win the game. After getting the next batter to fly out to left field for the second out of the inning, Chattanooga State was then able to get the final batter of the game to hit the ball right to the pitcher for the quick toss to first base for the final out.

With the win Chattanooga State improves to 24-15 on the season. Chattanooga State only has 12 games left in the regular season. The Tigers of Chattanooga State will return to the diamond on Thursday at 1 p.m. as the #2 ranked Dyersburg State Eagles come into town.
