Friday night at 7:30 p.m. the top two men’s basketball teams in the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association tip-off in Lynchburg, Tennessee. The second place Tigers of Chattanooga State will be up against the first place and 20th ranked Motlow State Bucks. These two teams stand atop the conference standings separated by a game. Chattanooga State is 12-6, 8-3 in conference play while Motlow State is 19-3, 8-2 in conference play.
Winner of this game will be in firm control of the conference headed down the final stretch as tournament play approaches. With a win the Bucks would have a two game lead on the Tigers with only 7 games remaining. A win for the Tigers would move them into first place by virtue of the tiebreaker. Back on December 2nd, Chattanooga State beat visiting Motlow State 82-74.
Since that loss back in December, Motlow State hasn’t lost a game. The Bucks are riding a 13 game winning streak. During this winning streak the Bucks have been led by their PG Javion Hamlet who leads the nation averaging 8.5 assists per game and G Isaiah Hart who is 8th in the nation averaging 3.3 steals a game.
Motlow State has also been a very efficient team when it comes to scoring. Bucks are 9th in the nation shooting 52.5% from the floor. They are also 11th in the nation when it comes to assists with 20.4 and 6th with 12.2 steals a game.
Chattanooga State enters the match-up winning 7 of their last 8 games and ready to knock off a third ranked team this season. Twice already the Tigers have gone up against ranked opponents and came away victorious with wins against Southwest Tennessee and Walters State.
In order for Chattanooga State to stay in the race for the regular season TCCAA conference title this game becomes a must win. The Tigers do have the two wins already against ranked teams on their side and the fact that they have only gotten better since their victory against Motlow State back in December is a good sign.
