It’s Time to Meet With Your Advisor
by Emily Mitchell
Whether you have questions, concerns, or simply need a listening ear, the Chattanooga State academic advisors are here to help you through your college experience.
With registration for Fall classes opening on the first week of April, students are encouraged to meet with their advisor as soon as possible.
Brandon Hines, an Academic Advisor, urges students to be proactive in scheduling an appointment with their advisor, “Our appointment slots fill up extremely fast.”
Advisors not only provide students with their registration PIN but also help guide them towards their academic goals.
“The sooner you can get with your advisor, the better,” said Academic Advisor Vicki Duncan, “So you can have the next semester look exactly how you want it to look.”
To get the most out of advising, good communication is vital.
According to Hines, every student and every student’s needs are different, so it’s important to let your instructors and advisor know whenever you need help: “Communicate what you need, and we’ll do our best to get you what you need.”
Advising is also not limited to discussing the student’s questions and concerns.
Academic Advisor Kellie Graves said, “Sometimes I’m just cheering for the students as well as trying to help them solve any issues they may have.”
“You can come to your advisor anytime,” said Duncan. “Don’t just come to us when there’s a problem, share what’s going great with you, too… Reflect on what’s working and then plan that for the future.”
You can locate your advisor and their contact information through the “Student” page on Tigerweb.
“Please come see me,” Graves said directed towards her students, “We want to see you, that’s what we’re here for.”
